PRINCETON - The No. 1 Princeton women's lacrosse team got four goals from Lindsay Biles and seven saves from Sarah Kolodner as the Tigers overcame a snowy evening and the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils to stay perfect in 2004. Princeton used a trio of surges to put away Duke 12-5 Wednesday at the Class of 1952 Stadium.
Elizabeth Pillion had five points for Princeton, including two on goals, while Kathleen Miller and Liza Hillenbrand each scored two goals apiece. Theresa Sherry and Tara Hardiman chipped in with a goal apiece. Hardiman's tally opened the scoring, as she took a pass from Pillion and beat Megan Huether for a 1-0 lead. Huether would allow all 12 Tiger goals, but she made 14 saves and kept Duke in the game for as long as possible. The Tigers would add two quick goals to take a 3-0 lead, but the Blue Devils answered with three of their own, including goals by Meghan Walters and Katie Laschinger that were 10 seconds apart.
Princeton would get two goals before halftime, including a free-position tally by Biles with only 23 seconds remaining. That gave Princeton a 5-3 lead at the break and planted momentum squarely in the Tigers' corner. A pair of goals by Hillenbrand, including one off a quick rebound shot, would open a 7-3 lead. Duke would get within three two different times, but would get no closer.
The Tigers put it away in the final five minutes, going on a 4-0 run to seal it.
Duke got its five goals from five different scorers, and Kristen Waagbo had the Blue Devils' lone assist.
Princeton will travel to Penn State this weekend, where it will look to go to 4-0 against ranked competition.
