Fullerton, Calif. - Kristin Lueke went 2 for 3 as the Princeton softball team fell to Texas A&M 6-0 in the second day of the Kia Klassic at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Softball Complex. The Tigers fell to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the tournament with one more game of pool play before bracket action.
The Aggies came out swinging from the start with two hits and three runs in the first. Sharonda McDonald bunted, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a Jana James' single up the middle. With one out, Adrian Gregory reached on a fielder's choice before Kristin Gunter doubled to left field, sending in another run.
Texas A&M doubled the score in the fifth when Rocky Spencer hit a two-run homer, scoring a runner who reached on a catcher's interference. Snyder struck out two to end the inning.
In the sixth, Texas A&M's Gregory reached on an error, stole second and third, and was brought home on the Aggies' second two-run homer of the game, this time by catcher Nicole Robinson.
Princeton freshmen Amelia Runyan and Calli Varner each pitched one inning for the Tigers while Erin Snyder took the loss with three strikeouts and no walks in the first five innings. Snyder and Stephanie Steel each had one hit for Princeton, who finished with four hits and two errors on the night.
Jessica Kapchinski earned the win on the mound and Texas A&M had six hits and one error.
Princeton plays tomorrow, Friday March 19 at 11 a.m. (PT) against No. 9 Washington.
