The Princeton women's lacrosse team's 13-game winning streak, the third-longest streak in team history, will be put to the test Saturday afternoon when the top-ranked Tigers face 18th-ranked Penn State at PSU's Holuba Hall at 1 p.m. The game will be played indoors due to the recent poor weather in the Northeast.
The Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season Wednesday with an impressive 12-5 victory over No. 4 Duke at a snowy Class of 1952 Stadium. Lindsey Biles scored four goals and Elizabeth Pillion added two goals and three assists as the Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 7-2 in the second half on the way to their 13th straight victory.
Penn State fell to 1-4 this season with an overtime loss to No. 20 William & Mary Saturday in State College, Pa. The Nittany Lions' losses this season have come to ranked teams, including three teams (Vanderbilt, Virginia, James Madison) currently ranked in the top 10.
Princeton has been dominant on the defensive end this season, allowing just 22 goals in four games (5.5 goals per game) and outshooting its four opponents 124-60 through four games. Biles leads the Tigers with 13 goals, while freshman Kathleen Miller has a team-high five assists in addition to nine goals.
Senior Jackie Sherman and sophomore Lori Havrilla each scored three goals for Penn State against William & Mary, while junior goalie Lee Tortorelli had eight saves.
Princeton has defeated Penn State six consecutive years. The Tigers' can tie the 1994 team on Saturday by winning their 14th straight game. The team record for consecutive wins came in 2002, when Princeton won its final 19 games on the way to the national title after losing to Georgetown to open the season.
