A matchup that has become one of the most intense in collegiate women's lacrosse renews Sunday afternoon when top-ranked Princeton travels to Baltimore to face No. 4 Loyola in a 2 p.m. game (internet broadcast can be heard on GoPrincetonTigers.com).
The teams met twice last season, with the Tigers defeating the Greyhounds 5-3 in the national semifinals in Syracuse after falling in overtime to Loyola at Class of 1952 Stadium March 9. Since the regular-season series renewed in 2000, each team has two wins overall and one win on the other team's home field.
The game also features the team ranked No. 1 at the end of the regular season last year (Loyola) and the team ranked No. 1 in the preseason this year (Princeton). Princeton, which won at Lafayette Wednesday to open the season, will have its No. 1 ranking tested in the next 10 days with games against No. 9 Virginia and No. 2 Duke in addition to the matchup with Loyola.
The Greyhounds were 2-0 heading into a Friday game at North Carolina. Loyola defeated Penn Saturday and UMBC Tuesday.
