Len Quesnelle, who had a four-year record of 29-84-11, has been dismissed as head men's hockey coach at Princeton University, director of athletics Gary D. Walters announced today.
Quesnelle could be reassigned to other duties within the department for the remainder of the time on his contract.
Quesnelle guided Princeton to a 5-24-2 record this season, which ended this past weekend when the Tigers were eliminated by Rennselaer in the ECAC playoffs.
"Len has been a very loyal member of the Princeton hockey program and Princeton athletic department for many years," Walters said. "It's not easy to make a decision like this, but we felt it was necessary for a change. We thank him for his service and wish him all the best in the future."
Quesnelle was a four-year letterwinner as a player at Princeton before graduating in 1988. He spent 12 years as an assistant coach with the Tigers, the last nine under Don Cahoon, during which time he helped the Tigers to an ECAC championship and NCAA tournament bid in 1998.
Quesnelle replaced Cahoon before the 2001 season when Cahoon left to become the head coach at UMass. Quesnelle guided the Tigers to back-to-back .500 seasons in the ECAC his first two years, but the Tigers then struggled to consecutive 12th place finishes in the league the past two seasons.
A national search for his successor will be held.
