Most times, the number 21 is associated with good luck. But if the Princeton women's lacrosse team sets a program record with its 21st straight win by beating Penn Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium, it won't have much to do with luck.
Princeton's 20-game streak heading into Wednesday's game has been about domination more than luck. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 268-124 in that stretch, an average margin of victory over more than seven goals per game.
Even more impressive is the fact that the Tigers have had two 20-game winning streaks in the past three seasons. Princeton won its final 19 games of the 2002 regular season on the way to the national title in addition to its season opener in 2003.
The Tigers improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in Ivy League play this season with a 13-4 victory against Yale this past Saturday. Lindsey Biles had four goals and two assists as the Tigers rebounded from an early deficit to take an 8-3 halftime lead.
Penn (7-5, 3-1 Ivy) is just a half-game behind the Tigers and one game behind 4-0 Dartmouth in the league standings. The Quakers came from behind to beat Harvard Saturday, 10-9, scoring the game's final four goals, including one from Chrissy Muller with less than a minute left.
Princeton has 10 straight wins over Penn and 15 wins in the last 17 years against the Quakers. Today's Note of the Day
Like a Broken Record? ? A Princeton win Wednesday against Penn would be the Tigers' 21st straight victory, setting a program record.
