CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The defending national champion Harvard heavyweight crew topped Princeton in ideal conditions Saturday on the Charles River. Although the Crimson swept all five races, the varsity eight race was easily the closest and could set up for an exciting rematch at Eastern Sprints.
The first varsity race, which earned Harvard the Compton Cup, was decided by 1.6 seconds. The Crimson finished in 5:45.8, while Princeton came in at 5:47.4. The second and third varsity races weren't as close as the two freshman races, although none of the four were decided by less than five seconds.
Princeton will race at Yale against the Bulldogs and the Cornell Big Red next weekend. The Tigers will meet the Crimson again on May 16 at Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass.
