Trenton, N.J. - The Princeton women's golf team (l-r: Meg Nakamura, Avery Kiser, Coach Eric Stein, Alexis Etow, Sharla Cloutier, Taryn Haladay) wrapped up the 2004 Ivy Championship on Sunday as Kiser became the first player to win the individual championship three times. Princeton beat runnerup Yale by 13 strokes on the challenging layout at Trenton Country Club.
Princeton began the tournament by trailing Yale by 12 strokes after one round, but the Tigers' hard charge Saturday afternoon got them back to a three-shot advantage. They lengthened that advantage on Sunday with the low team round of the tournament (309). Harvard was third in the team competition, followed by Dartmouth. Kiser paced Princeton with a 73 after carding a 79 and a 74 during Saturday's 36-hole action. Kiser beat second-place Cindy Shin of Yale by six strokes, despite Shin's fine round of 74 Sunday.
The top seven players earn All-Ivy honors at this event. All seven were either Princeton or Yale players. There was a tie for third place between Princeton's Taryn Haladay, who had the memorable hole-in-one on the par 3 10th hole Saturday, and Yale's January Romero. Both players totaled 241 for three rounds.
Fifth place was a tie between Princeton teammates Sharla Cloutier and Alexis Etow, who carded three-round totals of 242. The seventh-place finisher was Yale's Stephanie Wei with a 244.
Meg Nakamura was the final member of Princeton's fivesome and she shot a third-round 79 to finish in a tie for 10th with a 246.
