Princeton's Theresa Sherry, Lindsey Biles and Elizabeth Pillion have been named as three of 20 nominees for the 2004 Tewaaraton Trophy honoring the top player in women's collegiate lacrosse.
Five of the 20 nominees announced Monday will be named finalists for the trophy in early May.
The Tewaaraton Trophy is awarded each year to the top male and female players in the country, as chosen by a special selection committee. The trophy will be presented in Washington, D.C., on June 3 in a special banquet and ceremony at the National Geographic Society Auditorium.
Sherry, who scored a career-high six goals for Princeton in a win at Harvard Saturday, is tied for the team lead in both goals (38) and points (48) this season. A four-year starter, she currently ranks third all-time at Princeton with 151 career goals and fifth all-time at Princeton with 181 career points. Sherry is also second on the team in caused turnovers with 20.
Biles has started every game this season for the Tigers and is tied with Sherry for the team lead in scoring with identical numbers of 38 goals and 48 points. She has at least three goals in eight of Princeton's 13 games this season. Biles also leads the Tigers in groundballs with 31.
Pillion is Princeton's leader in draw controls this season with 37 and ranks third on the team with 22 goals and 35 points. Her 13 assists lead the team, and she also ranks second on the Tigers with 29 groundballs.
Princeton (13-0, 5-0 Ivy), the top-ranked team in the nation, is the only school to have three Tewaaraton Trophy nominees. Duke, Loyola, and Virginia each have two nominees.
