The Penn women's tennis team won three tight doubles matches and took three of six singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 6-1 victory over Princeton in an Ivy League match played indoors at Jadwin Gym Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's win came in the final match of the day at No. 2, where sophomore Alison Hashmall won a 13-11 proset over Penn's Caroline Stanislawski after splitting the first two sets, 7-5 and 4-6. Hashmall and Stanislawski played a back-and-forth tiebreak, with each player staving off match points until the final point.
Two of the other five singles matches went to three sets, with Penn winning both. The Quakers' Shelah Chao defeated Jessica Siebel at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 4-6 and 6-2, while Penn's Sara Schiffman won at No. 5 over Pricneton's Laura Trimble, 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2. The No. 1 doubles match was also tightly contested, with Penn's Rachel Shweky and Shelah Chao defeating the Tigers' Avantika Bhargava and Alex Kobishyn by a 9-7 score.
Princeton returns to action next weekend, facing Yale and Brown in Ivy League matches on the road.
