Princeton, N.J. - Melissa Finley and Erin Snyder have been named the Ivy League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks after leading the Tigers to five consecutive wins and three straight shutouts.
Finley went 6 for 11 (.545), scored three times and drove home five runs in a 4-0 week for Princeton. Four of her hits were extra-base hits, including two doubles, one triple, and her third home run of the season. She was walked three times.
Finley also won two games on the mound, striking out 13 batters and allowing an average of one hit, one walk, and one run per game. After striking out nine Stags for the 5-2 win in the first game, Finley had her best performance of the week in the second game against Fairfield when she went 3 for 3 and drove home all four runs of the 4-0 shutout.
She then defended her 2003 Ivy League Player of the Year title at Penn where, in the second game, she pitched a four-hit shutout and went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI in the 6-0 win.
After missing the last six games on the mound due to an injury, Snyder pitched the first perfect game in her two-year collegiate career. She struck out 10 of the 24 batters she faced and allowed no hits, walks or runs in a 1-0 win over Penn to open the Ivy League season in Philadelphia. Snyder is 6-6 on the mound with three shutouts and 78 strikeouts in 72 innings.
