Michele DeJuliis, a three-time first-team All-America at Penn State in the mid 1990's and a member of the United States Elite Team since 1994, has been named an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Princeton University. DeJuliis, 29, replaces Keely McDonald, who became the head coach at Brown University last month. She will be in involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting and skill development, and will work specifically with the Tigers' attack unit. "We're very excited to have someone of Michele's caliber join our staff," says Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "She has a passion for lacrosse, as her 11 years of national team experience shows, and she has a diverse background that will be an asset to our program." A native of Baltimore, DeJuliis joins the collegiate coaching ranks after four years as a member of the Baltimore City Police Department. Joining that department in 2000, DeJuliis spent time as a patrol and tactical officer before moving onto the detective ranks, most recently as a detective with the Executive Protection Unit in May of this year. She earned a Meritorious Conduct Award and the Police Commissioner's Award of Excellence while serving the department. DeJuliis also founded The Ultimate Goal Lacrosse Club in January 2001. Ultimate Goal, based in Philadelphia, develops and organizes clinics, camps and tournaments for adolescent and high-school-age players. A member of the U.S. Elite team for the last 11 years, DeJuliis has participated in numerous international competitions with that team. She also played for Team Black, coached by Sailer, in the "Versus" Professional Exhibition games in 2003. DeJuliis finished her career at Penn State eighth on the school's all-time list with 142 goals and sixth in program history with 203 points. She was an IWLCA first-team All-America in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and led the Nittany Lions to the 1995 National Collegiate semifinals. She also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Penn State in 1998 while completing her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. The following year, she was a teacher and coach of lacrosse and soccer at Centennial High School in Ellicott City, Md.
