Sprint Football Drops Season Opener at Navy

Annapolis, Md. - The Princeton sprint football team dropped its season opener Friday night at Navy by a score of 77-16. Navy opened the scoring 2:55 into the game and held it throughout the game. Princeton's points came on a field goal from senior Neil Swami, a four-yard touchdown run by junior Frank Langston and an eight-yard touchdown pass by senior Dennis Bakke to senior Matt Wolf.
Navy came out of the gates ready and blocked a Princeton punt in the game's first possession to set up their first score, a five-yard touchdown rush by Amir Shareef to go ahead 7-0 after the ensuing extra point. Navy scored again on Princeton's next possession when Bret Abbamonte returned an interception for the score.
Princeton scored the game's next points, Swami's field goal, but Navy was rolling and added another 14 points in the quarter and 49 in the half to lead 63-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Navy added a touchdown in each quarter, while the Tigers mustered a pair of scores in the fourth quarter.
Princeton opened the fourth quarter by completing a 10 play, 81 yard drive that began in the third quarter and culminated when Langston carried the ball the final four yards and into the end zone. Swami added the extra point.
The Tigers picked up their second touchdown as the game ended. The 11 play, 49 yard drive ended when Bakke found Wolf in the end zone from the eight-yard line. The Tigers failed on the two-point conversion.
Princeton is now 0-1 on the season and hosts Penn next Friday night at 7 p.m., at Freylingheisen Field.
