WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Princeton women's tennis team competed at the 12th Annual William & Mary Invitational this weekend, with several Tigers advancing to the second round in their particular flights.
The top singles performance of the weekend for the Tigers came from Joanna Roth, who advanced to the semifinals of the "D" bracket singles with two victories on Friday. Roth first defeated Virginia's Jesse Firth-Morais, 6-0 and 6-2, and then dispatched Virginia Tech's Kate Harrington in straight sets in the quarterfinals. Roth then took Virginia's Lindsey Pereira to three sets in the semifinals, but fell 6-3 in the third. Jeanne Schwartz of Marshall then squeaked by Roth in the third-place match, 7-5 and 7-6.
In the "B" flight singles, Jessica Siebel won her first-round match, 6-1 and 7-6, over Marshall's Lille Nzudie. Siebel then fell in the second round to No. 4 seed Kristen James of Virginia when she was forced to retire in the second set.
Freshman Christine Kansky fell to No. 3 seed Parker Goyer of Duke in the "C" singles first round, but then rebounded in the consolation bracket with a three-set win over Virginia Tech's Bethany James to advance to the consolation final. Kansky then lost a tough 7-6, 6-3 decision to N.C. State's Agustine Arechavaleta in that match.
