Leroux One of 15 Nominees for Hockey Humanitarian Award

Princeton, N.J. - Princeton junior goaltender Eric Leroux was one of 15 collegiate hockey players nominated for the 2005 Hockey Humanitarian Award. The Hockey Humanitarian Award annually honors college hockey's finest citizen and seeks to recognize college hockey players, Division I or Division III, male or female, who give back to their community in the true humanitarian spirit.
The five finalists for the award will be announced on Wednesday, January 12. The tenth recipient of the Hockey Humanitarian Award will be selected from the group of finalists and named in a ceremony held in conjunction with the Hobey Baker Memorial Award on Friday, April 8th in Columbus, Ohioduring the2005 NCAA Frozen Four.
Leroux was nominated because of his outstanding work ethic and support for the worldwide community. Leroux has spent time working with disabled adults in his home town of London, Ont., the year before coming to Princeton. At Princeton he is a member of New Jersey Water Watch, a campus organization that promotes water and environment cleanliness, and is in the process of founding the Princeton World Health Initiative, a campus organization with the mission to recover unused medical supplies from area hospitals and pharmaceutical companies and distribute them to South American hospitals in need.
Work with South American hospitals stemmed from his exxperience last summer volunteering in a the Malaria Clinic and Snake Bite Clinic a a hospital in Ecuador.
Leroux is also the Vice-President of the Canadian Club at Princeton and spends time working with local area youth goalies. He has also organized PUCK (Providing Underprivileged Communities and Kids), which organized an equipment drive to distribute used equipment to Baltimore Youth Hockey leagues.
