Princeton, N.J. - Jeff Prough broke a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal midway through the second period as Brown defeated the Princeton men's hockey team 4-2 Saturday night at Baker Rink. Princeton's goals came from junior Patrick Neundorfer and sophomore Darroll Powe as the Tigers fell to 6-14-1 on the season.
Princeton opened the scoring early in the first period despite being outshot 12-3 in the period. On the power play, Neundorfer redirected a point shot by senior Luc Paquin by Brown's Adam D'Alba. Junior Dustin Sproat also assisted on Neundorfer's eighth goal of the season. Brown scored a pair of goals late in the opening period to take a 2-1 lead in the first intermission. First Antonin Roux scored his first of two goals at 15:45 when he followed up on his own rebound. Then Mike Meech tallied a power-play goal of his own when he collected a rebound on the doorstep at 17:09.
Princeton again scored early in the second period to knot the game at two goals apiece. Powe received a pass from senior Neil Stevenson-Moore in the neutral zone and skated in Brown's end on the off wing. Once in, he floated a wrister that beat D'Alba on the near side as he came across the crease. It was Powe's fourth goal of the season and Paquin also received an assist, his second of the night.
The score remained tied until the 10:29 mark of the period when Prough banged in a blocked shot for Brown's third power-play goal of the night. Brown held a 9-6 shot advantage in the second period.
Princeton came out strong in the third, pressuring D'Alba and the Bears as the Tigers fired 14 shots on the Brown netminder. However the only goal of the period came when Sean Hurly sprung Roux on a breakaway and Roux scored with a move to his backhand.
Princeton goaltender Eric Leroux made 27 saves in the loss while D'Alba stopped 21 Tiger shots for the win.
Princeton hits the road next weekend as it visits St. Lawrence on Friday night.
