King Advances in Singles, Doubles at Big Green Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. - Sophomore Ivana King was a winner in both singles and doubles Saturday as the Princeton women's tennis team began play in the 2005 Big Green Invitational at Dartmouth College.
King defeated Army's Jessica Shurtz by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 in the "A" singles flight to advance to the second round. She joined doubles partner Laura Trimble in doubles to defeat a team from Marist by an 8-4 score to advance to the second round.
Princeton had two other players in the "A" singles draw, Laura Trimble and Joanna Roth. Trimble took the first set to a tiebreak before falling to Stony Brook's Catherine-Anne Valle, while Roth fell in straight sets to Katrina Elder-Bush of Rutgers.
Kristin Scott lost a three-setter to Cornell's Catherine Duboc in the "B" flight singles. Princeton's doubles team of Roth and Scott lost in the first round but defeated a team from host Dartmouth in the consolation draw.
Play continues at the Big Green Invitational Sunday.
