Final Stats
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Princeton women's swimming team ended the 2005 portion of its season on a high note, winning the three-day Brown Invitational in runaway fashion. The Tigers cultivated a big lead on day one and never looked back, and in the process Princeton clinched an Ivy League dual victory over Brown.
Princeton opened the meet Friday by taking the 200 free relay in 1:35.59. The winning team of Katie Miller, Chrissy Macaulay, Suzanne Rossi and Sobenna George set the tone for Princeton in the winning relay, and Brett Shiflett built on it shortly thereafter by claiming the 500 free in 4:59.39. The only swimmer within one second of her was Ellen Gray, who placed second in 5:00.30.
Lisa Hamming won the 200 IM in 2:06.00, giving her the win over second-place finisher Kelly Hannigan (2:07.06). Princeton ended Friday's portion of the meet by winning the 400 medley in 3:54.21.
Momentum stayed on Princeton's side to open Saturday, as Princeton won the 200 medley in 1:46.31. Hamming followed the win up with a victory in the 400 IM; her time of 4:24.87 topped second-place Kelly Hannigan, who came in at 4:31.95. Shifflett gave Princeton another Saturday individual win by taking the 200 free in 1:52.47, and Sarah Schaffer followed that by finishing the 100 breast first in 1:05.14. Schaffer took her second individual win by taking the 100 back in 58.25, and then Princeton claimed the 800 free relay in 7:46.14.
Schaffer won her final event Sunday by taking the 200 breast in 2:22.34.
Princeton is now off for the winter break. Its next official competition will be at Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 29.
