March 4, 2005
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior 197-pounder Jake Butler is Princeton's only seeded wrestler for this weekend's 2005 EIWA championships, which are being held at Navy. While each of Princeton's 10 wrestlers will be seeking an EIWA title, they will also look for one of the 42 bids handed out to the NCAA championships.
Each of the top three placewinners for each weight class will go to the NCAA tournament automatically. From there, the EIWA will hand out 12 more at-large bids to wrestlers who placed anywhere from fourth to sixth in their respective weight class. The 42 bids from the EIWA is the second-most for any league in the country; the Big Ten will send 72 wrestlers.
The 2005 brackets can be found by clicking the appropriate link, and below that will be a weight-by-weight preview for Princeton wrestlers.

125 - Audrey Pang
The lone female wrestler in the EIWA championships has a tough road ahead of her. Pang, a senior tri-captain, comes in with a record of 2-8 and will face fifth-seeded Mason Lenhard of Penn in the first round. They didn't face each other in the regular season.
133 - Greg Redman
Redman earned the starting position midway through the season and brings a 2-8 record into the championships. He faces sixth-seeded Matt DeLorenzo (20-10) of Columbia in the opening round. They didn't meet in the regular season.
141 - Eric Marcotulli
Marcotulli is a sophomore who jumped out to a 12-4 record before struggling during the dual meet season and ending his season with a 13-10 record. He is still a solid competitor who will face eighth-seeded Michael Baria (10-9) of Harvard. Baria defeated Marcotulli 10-4 on Feb. 5. A win for Marcotulli would send him to a quarterfinal matchup against top-seeded Cory Cooperman of Lehigh.
149 - Andrew Iannuzzi
Iannuzzi brings a solid 13-11 record into the 2005 Championships and will face American's Tom Kniezewski (22-10) in the first round. Iannuzzi is an aggressive and exciting competitor who should provide Kniezewski a stiff test in the opening round. The winner will likely face No. 2 seed Phillip Simpson in the second round.
157 - Alex Enriquez
Enriquez, the lone Princeton freshman in the EIWA championships, is 6-11 and will face Navy's Pat Lukanich in the first round. Lukanich is the sixth seed and brings a 15-9 record into the tournament. They never met in the regular season.
165 - Charlie Wiggins
Wiggins, a senior tr-captain, is 12-13 and gets a rematch with Franklin & Marshall's Matt Veres (13-6) in the opening round. Veres, the fifth seed, pinned Wiggins in 1:08 at the season-opening Central New Jersey Open on Nov. 14.
174 - Matthew DeNichilo
DeNichilo is 15-10 and will face the eighth-seeded Mike Pedro from Brown in the opening round of the tournament. The Princeton junior lost a tough 8-4 match to Pedro on Feb. 4, but he has shown the ability to bounce back from tough losses throughout the season. He has only lost two matches in a row once this season.
184 - Jack Fleming
Fleming, the third senior tri-captain, is 13-12 and will face the third-seeded Luke Calvert (18-4) in the opening round. They never met during the regular season. Fleming enters the EIWAs on a two-match winning streak.
197 - Jake Butler
Clearly Princeton's best chance at an NCAA berth, Butler is looking to improve on his 2004 fifth-place finish. The Princeton junior, seeded fourth in the weight class, is 19-5 this season and has won six straight matches. Butler's first match is against Billy Colgan (3-14), and a win would send him into the second round against Penn's Marcus Schontube, who Butler defeated 10-0 at Penn on Feb. 19. If Butler could match that victory, he would likely face top-seeded Jon Trenge of Lehigh. Trenge, who gained national fame when he faced Cael Sanderson in the 2003 national final, is 22-3 this season.
HWT - Kris Berr
Berr is 8-12 this season and faces Army's Joe Forsman in the first round of the championships. Forsman in 8-6 this season and seeded seventh.
