Princeton senior women's lacrosse players Lindsey Biles and Elizabeth Pillion are among the 18 nominees for the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy, the national lacrosse player of the year award to be presented June 2 in Washington, D.C.
Biles leads the Tigers with 34 goals this season and now ranks fourth all-time at Princeton with 154 career goals. She has scored at least two goals in 10 of Princeton's 11 games this season and also ranks second on the team with 17 caused turnovers, 25 groundballs and 18 draw controls.
Pillion is second on the team in both goals (23) and points (31) and scored her 100th career goal in the second half of Princeton's win over Penn Wednesday night. She also leads the team in groundballs (28), draw controls (21) and caused turnovers (20) and has the highest shooting percentage (.451) among Princeton regulars.
Princeton is one of six schools to have more than one Tewaaraton nominee. No. 1 Northwestern and defending national champion Virginia each have three, while the Tigers, Duke, Dartmouth and Boston University each have two.
Five finalists from among the 18 nominees will be chosen at the end of the regular season in May. The Tewaaraton Trophy will then be awarded at the University Club in Washington, D.C., June 2.
The Tewaaraton Award Foundation, in conjunction with the University Club of Washington, D.C., formally established the "Tewaaraton Trophy" on August 29, 2000. Today, the Tewaaraton Trophy is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the top female and male varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. The Foundation honors lacrosse, the original and oldest American sport, through the Tewaaraton name and by promoting the game through the award.
