CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Princeton women's lightweights entered the weekend as the No. 1 team in the nation, and a race on the Charles River against No. 3 Harvard will do nothing to change that. For a second straight race, Princeton topped its rival boat and will head to Eastern Sprints as the favorite to reclaim the title.
This has been the top rivalry in women's lightweight crew over the last few seasons. Princeton won the 2003 Eastern title, topping Harvard, while the Crimson returned the favor last year. Both teams will be favored to be in the final sprint for the Eastern title on May 15.
Saturday's race went to Princeton, which claimed the Class of 1999 Cup by finishing in 6:53.2, more than seven full seconds faster than the No. 3 Crimson.
Princeton also won the novice eight race, while Harvard claimed the varsity fours.
