PRINCETON, N.J. - What a beautiful day for a softball doubleheader! After being rained out this past weekend, the Princeton softball team will host Penn, today, on 1895 Field with the opening pitch at 3 p.m. Today's doubleheader opens conference action for the Tigers. Princeton will travel to Philadelphia tomorrow at 4 p.m. for a single game to make-up the Temple contest that was postponed on Sunday.
Princeton swept its home-opener against Fairfield last week. In the first of two, Princeton scored eight runs, posted two homeruns and junior pitcher Erin Snyder recorded her first-collegiate perfect game. In game two, Tiffany Andras hit a grand slam to earn her first homer of the season and led the Tigers to a 6-5 win.
Senior Melissa Finley continues to lead Princeton (17-7) offensively with a .397 batting average, .721 slugging percentage and four homeruns. Snyder rallied 10 strikeouts in the eight-run shutout of the Stags and clinched the second-best career strikeout spot with 442.
The Quakers enter this contest with a 9-11 record on the season. Penn is 1-1 on the road, where the Quakers split a doubleheader at Lafayette on March 31. They won game one 8-4 before falling 5-1 in the second contest.
Leading from behind the mound for Penn is Ann Ferracane (5-4), who holds a 2.59 era in 51.1 innings pitched, while Annie Kinsey's .381 batting average complements her 10 RBIs on the season.
Last season Princeton handed Penn two shutouts, 1-0 and 6-0, for losses in Philadelphia.
