Softball Heads To New York For Ivy Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton softball team will head north to New York for a set of Ivy doubleheaders against Columbia and Cornell, this weekend. The Tigers face the Lions on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m. before meeting the Big Red at noon on Sunday, April 10.
The Tigers (21-8) are coming off a two-game sweep of Lehigh. Princeton won its first game 9-1, where freshman Beth Dalmut recorded her first home run of the season and tallied two RBIs. Junior Erin Snyder (11-2) allowed just four hits from the mound and posted nine strikeouts. The second game featured two homers by sophomore Calli Jo Varner, who also recorded three RBIs in the 3-1 victory. Freshman Kristen Schaus (8-4) gave up seven hits and one run, while fanning seven batters.
Snyder and Schaus have combined for a robust 247 strikeouts this season. Snyder's .73 era leads the pitching staff, but Schaus isn't far behind with a 1.26. Snyder is on a seven-game win streak from the mound and has held opponents to .176 at the plate.
Senior Melissa Finley leads the team in hits (29), doubles (8), runs (19), RBIs (18) and slugging percentage (.659). Finley also leads the bomb squad with five homers, but junior Lindsay Motal and sophomore Calli Jo Varner each have four a piece.
Columbia (13-17) split a pair of home games with Manhattan earlier this week. The Lions dropped the first game 1-0 before rallying a 4-0 win in the second contest. Ciji Rich has started all 30 games for Columbia and boasts a .314 batting average off one home run and 13 RBIs, this season. On the mound, Jackie Adelfio (9-6) has a 2.29 era in 100.2 innings pitched. Cornell (14-11) earned a split with Canisius this past Tuesday. The Big Red dropped a 5-4 game before producing a 9-1 outpour in the second face-off. Lauren May's homer in the second game forced the mercy rule in game two. May leads the team with five homers and a .435 batting average. Jenn Meunier (8-2) has pitched 60 innings for Cornell and posts a 3.03 era on the season.
