Top-Ranked Open Crew Stunned By Yale For Eastern Sprint Title

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Princeton open crew went undefeated during the 2005 season, but it faced its first bit of adversity at the Eastern Championships when Yale pushed past the Tigers for the title. Princeton's response will come next week at the NCAA championships.
The top varsity eight finished second in its grand final, as its time of 6:18.0 wasn't enough to top Yale's time of 6:15.6. The Tigers did hold off Ivy rivals Brown and Radcliffe for second in the championship race, which earns the members of the Princeton boat All-Ivy honors.
The only Sprint title went to the second varsity eight, which finished in 6:27.3 to hold off Yale for the title.
Princeton showed off its depth by reaching the grand final in six events (all times are below). Princeton finished fifth in both 4s, placed fourth in the top novice competition and second in the second novice race.
The Tigers will head to Sacramento, Calif., for the NCAA championships next week.
