Back To Tucson: Softball Earns Third Seed In The Arizona Region

PRINCETON, N.J. - In 2003, the Princeton softball team won the Ivy League and earned a berth to the 2003 NCAA Regionals in Tucson, Ariz., where they faced South Carolina. Now, 2005, Princeton (35-18) is once again the Ivy League Champion and will, again, continue its season with action in Tucson as they earned the third seed in Arizona, the third region, and will face Oklahoma State at Hillenbrand Stadium this weekend.

Tournament action begins Friday, May 20 as Princeton takes on Oklahoma State (33-22) at 4 p.m. before the host, Arizona, faces Lehigh at 6:30 p.m. (mountain standard time).

Oklahoma State (33-22) earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship after being eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament, last week.

Arizona (39-10) will hosts it's eight region in nine years and enters the tournament as the co-Pac 10 Champion. Lehigh (41-8), who set a new program and conference record for wins, won the Patriot League for the automatic seed.

This year's NCAA Championship mocks the previous baseball-style bracket, where four teams will compete at 16 different regional sites. The 16 regional winners will then play a three-game series against another regional winner at one of eight sites. From there, the eight Super Regional winners continue on to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
