Princeton, N.J. - Princeton senior defenseman Luc Paquin recently signed a contract with Tilburg Trappers of the Dutch Superleague to play hockey professionally in Holland for the 2005-06 season. Paquin is coming off a season in which he posted 24 points to lead all ECAC Hockey League defenseman.
Princeton head coach Guy Gadowsky had a stint with the team during the 1993-93 season and was instrumental in pairing Paquin with the team. The Trappers were looking for an offensive-minded defenseman and Paquin fit the description.
Paquin led the Tiger defensive corps in scoring with six goals and 18 assists for 24 points and was named first-team All-ECACHL and first-team All-Ivy last season. He also led all ECACHL defensemen in scoring with 23 league points, five more than the runner-up. He spent a good portion of the season in the top 10 nationally in scoring among defenseman.
"I believe that European hockey is better fitted for my style of play and I wanted to pursue my career overseas," says Paquin. "The opportunities to play are better and I will be able to travel and learn new languages."
In addition to Paquin, the Trappers have recently signed three other former NCAA hockey players: Dave Iannazzo (St. Cloud State), Marco Peluso (Minnesota-Duluth) and Doug Stienstra (Cornell).
