Princeton, N.J. - Incoming women's golf freshman Marlowe Boukis qualified for the 2005 U.S. Women's Open Championship yesterday at the sectional qualifier at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club in Owings Mills, Md. Boukis tied for the final spot and ended up in a four-person play-off for the final three spots, that also included professionals Charlotta Sorenstam and Erica Blasberg.
Boukis, competing as an amateur, shot rounds of 77 and 74 on a 95-degree day to become the first female Tiger to ever qualify for the U.S. Open. The top-17 finishers in the 51-player field advanced. The U.S. Open will take place from June 23-26 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., just outside of Denver.
The sectional tournament she competed in was one of nine sectional qualifying tournaments held around the country. Five took place on Monday and four more will be played on Tuesday. Following play Tuesday, the complete U.S. Open field will be finalized.
