Two of the top-10-ranked men's soccer teams in the nation will visit Lourie-Love Field this weekend for the 2005 Princeton Invitational Tournament, and the Tigers will play both of those teams.
Princeton (1-1) hosts ninth-ranked Akron (4-0) Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and seventh-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson (4-0) Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Admission to all Princeton soccer games is free of charge.
"This is a great opportunity for us getting to play two undefeated and ranked teams," says Princeton head coach Jim Barlow. "While it's still early in the season, these are huge games for us and will go a long way in preparing us for the Ivy League season."
Loyola (1-3), which defeated Princeton in the season opener at Lourie-Love Sept. 2, is also a part of the Princeton Invitational field. The Greyhounds will play FDU at 5 p.m. Friday and Akron at noon Sunday preceding Princeton's games.
The Tigers, who defeated American 2-1 this past Friday, are ranked eighth in the Middle Atlantic Region by the NSCAA. FDU is ranked first in the region.
Princeton defeated Fairleigh Dickinson last season by a 2-0 score at the Penn Classic in Philadelphia.
Akron, which defeated Princeton in Ohio last year, has outscored its opponents 24-2 in its four wins this season, including a 12-2 victory over Cleveland State last week. The Zips are ranked second in the Great Lakes region behind Indiana this week.
Loyola has dropped three straight 1-0 decisions, to Syracuse, Bucknell and Towson, since defeating the Tigers 2-1 at Lourie-Love.
