Men's Water Polo Sweeps First Two League Games

Salem, W.Va. - The 10th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team went 2-0 on Saturday in CWPA games played at Salem International, defeating the host team 13-9 in the opener and topping George Washington 9-4 in the afternoon. Eric Vreeland scored three times in the opener, while Nicholas Seaver added three goals in the second game.
In the win over Salem International, the Tigers took a big 10-3 lead through three quarters, but a furious comeback by Salem, who scored six times in the final quaretr fell short as the Tigers won 13-9. Vreeland led the way with three goals, while Brendan Colgan and Seaver both scored twice. Scott Syverson made 11 saves.
In the afternoon game, Princeton edged George Washington for the second time this season. The game was close in the first two quarters, with Princeton holding a 5-3 lead at the half. But Princeton turned up the pressure in the second half and scored four more times to seal the win. Seaver had three goals in the game and John Stover and Zach Beckmann each added a pair. Syverson made six saves.
Princeton is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Princeton hosts the ECAC Championships next weekend at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers open the weekend on Saturday at 9 a.m., against Johns Hopkins.
