Princeton Softball Announces 2006 Schedule and Walk-On Tryouts

PRINCETON, N.J. - A spring break trip to Northern California and a full slate of Ivy League contests are complemented by 11 non-conference doubleheaders and a season-opening trip to North Carolina as Princeton head softball coach Maureen Barron announced the Tigers' 2006 spring schedule Thursday.

The 2006 campaign gets underway Mar. 3-5 at the University of North Carolina at the Tar Heel Invitational. After a weekend away from competition, the Tigers head to the Golden State for the Capital Classic, hosted by Sacramento State Mar. 17-19 and the Stanford Invitational, Mar. 24-26. Midweek doubleheaders against St. Mary's and Sacramento State are also on the docket.
Northeastern teams fill the remainder of the schedule, beginning Mar. 29 with the home opener against Rutgers the first of seven home twinbills throughout the spring. The first Ivy League doubleheader is three days later at Penn on Apr. 1, while Yale comes to Old Nassau a week later for to open the home conference slate. The regular season concludes with a doubleheader at Rider on May 6.
Barron has also scheduled four fall games. On Oct. 1, the Tigers travel to Philadelphia to take part in the Temple Fall Invitational against the host Owls at 11:45 a.m. and Villanova at 1:30 p.m. The following day, Rider comes to Princeton for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
The 15-time Ivy League champions are coming off the school's sixth NCAA tournament appearance and a 36-20 overall finish and 12-2 Ivy record last season.
