Princeton, N.J. - The ninth-ranked Princeton men's water polo team placed second at the 2005 ECAC Championship after a 10-6 defeat at the hands of No. 13 St. Francis Sunday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. Chris Kelsch and Mike McKenna each scored twice in the loss as Princeton fell to 8-2 overall on the season.
St. Francis started strong and held off Princeton throughout the game, taking a 4-1 lead after a quarter and a 7-2 lead at the half. John Stover and Zach Beckmann also added goals in the loss. Scott Syverson made two saves in the first half, while Gant Morgner blocked four shots in the second half. Princeton's inability to convert when a man-up was the deciding factor in the game, as Princeton was 2 for 3 in man-up situations.
The loss marked the second-straight year that the Terriers downed Princeton in the ECAC final after Princeton took the season-opening match during the Princeton Invitational. Last year the Tigers took the rubber-match in the Eastern title game.
Princeton returns to action next weekend when it looks to extend its 2-0 CWPA record as it hosts Navy and Johns Hopkins at DeNunzio Pool.
