FLUSHING, N.Y. - Senior Andrew Lieu came from behind to win at No. 3 singles and earned a victory at No. 1 doubles with Hans Plukas to lead the Princeton men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Dartmouth at the ECAC Division I Men's Tennis Invitational at the National Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
Lieu lost the first set in a tiebreak at No. 3 to Ari Gayer of No. 11 seed Dartmouth but came back to win the final two sets by identical 6-2 scores to clinch the match for No. 6 seed Princeton. Earlier, he helped Princeton clinch the doubles point, joining with Plukas to defeat Rashaad Elder-Bush and Raj Shrestha by an 8-4 score.
The doubles point came down to a tiebreak at No. 2, where Princeton's Sratha Saengsuwarn and Alex Krueger-Wyman defeated Gayer and Jeff Schechtman.
Saengsuwarn won easily in straight sets at No. 2 singles over Shrestha, while Krueger-Wyman lost just four games in a straight-set win over Robbie Lim at No. 6.
Freshman Andrew Husby continued his strong fall play, winning a three-set match at No. 5 singles against David Steinberg. After falling in a tiebreak in the second set, Husby won the third set by a 7-5 score.
The Tigers play Harvard in the quarterfinals Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
