The Princeton men's soccer team played a strong second half against Loyola in its home opener, and the Tigers hope to sustain that same kind of effort when they return to the field Friday afternoon at American.
Game time is 3 p.m. at Reeves Field on the American campus in Washington, D.C. An internet broadcast of the game is available by clicking on the "listen live" link at GoPrincetonTigers.com.
The Tigers (0-1) outshot Loyola 7-3 in the second half last Friday at Lourie-Love Field, and got the tying goal thanks to Adrian Melville in the 79th minute, but Loyola scored just more than a minute later and held on for a 2-1 win.
Princeton and American are meeting on the soccer field for the ninth straight season. The Tigers have four wins and two ties against the Eagles in the previous eight meetings, including a scoreless tie at Lourie-Love Field last season.
The Eagles (0-1-1) played two games last weekend in the D.C. College Cup, tying George Washington in the season opener before falling by a 1-0 score to Georgetown two days later. Senior Garth Juckem scored late against GW to give American a tie in that game.
Princeton head coach Jim Barlow was an assistant coach at American for four seasons before taking over at his alma mater in 1996.
The Tigers return home next weekend to host the Princeton Invitational, playing Akron and Fairleigh Dickinson.
