Many of the premier high school and collegiate wrestling programs will make their way to the Hampton Coliseum this weekend for the 2006 Virginia Duals. One such squad will be Princeton University, which earned the third seed in the American College Division and will open the weekend facing Anderson College Friday at 11 a.m.
Princeton enters the Duals with a 4-2 record, which includes a hard-fought 22-21 loss to Rutgers last weekend. Led by 2005 NCAA competitor Jake Butler (197) and veterans Matt DeNichilo (174), Eric Marcotulli (141) and Andrew Iannuzzi (149), Princeton is hoping to stand atop the eight-team field by Saturday night.
Friday's quarterfinal opponent, Anderson College, is a Top 20 Division III program. A win would likely send Princeton into a semifinal showdown with SUNY-Brockport, an annual challenger for the Division III national championship. The top seed in the field is South Dakota State, which defeated Princeton 18-15 last season in South Dakota. Princeton won five of the ten matches that evening but lost because of bonus points South Dakota State earned in an early pin.
