PRINCETON - Princeton senior goaltender Eric Leroux and Tiger junior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller were named the ECAC Hockey League's Goaltender and Player of the Week on Monday for their performances in Princeton's sweep of Colgate and Cornell this past weekend. Leroux made 35 saves to shut out Cornell on Saturday, while Goeckner-Zoeller scored three goals in the wins.
The honors are the first career weekly honors for both players and are Princeton's first Player and Goaltender of the Week honors this season. Freshmen Brandan Kushniruk and Brett Wilson have received Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Goeckner-Zoeller helped lead Princeton to its first league weekend sweep since the final weekend of the 2001-02 season. He scored two goals, both on the power play, in Friday's 5-3 win over Colgate, and added a breakaway goal, Princeton's second goal which came late in the third period, to add insurance in the Tigers' 3-0 shutout of Cornell on Saturday.
Leroux made 35 saves on Saturday against Cornell to become the first Princeton goaltender to blank the Big Red in 42 years. Leroux's shutout was his second of the year. After stopping eight shots in the first period, he stopped 14 in the second and 13 in the third period.
