Men's Soccer Begins Season-Ending Ivy Stretch With Trip to Columbia
October 12, 2006 | Men's Soccer
There is plenty to play for as the Princeton men's soccer team begins its season-ending stretch. All four of the Tigers' remaining games are Ivy League games, on each of the next four Saturdays, beginning with a trip to Columbia Saturday night.
Princeton (6-5-2. 1-2 Ivy), which has already equaled its win total from a year ago, hopes to start a repeat performance of the results against those four teams from last season. The Tigers finished 3-0-1 in 2005 against Columbia, Harvard, Cornell and Penn, including a 1-0 victory against the Lions at Lourie-Love Field.
The Tigers got a nice win over a regionally-ranked opponent Tuesday night, defeating Seton Hall by a 3-2 score in overtime at Lourie-Love Field. Freshman Max Hare scored the game winner just 56 seconds into overtime, stealing the ball from the Seton Hall goalkeeper and scoring into an empty net. Hare also scored his first career goal in the first half.
Hare became the 11th Princeton player to score a goal this season with his first-half goal against the Pirates.
Columbia (5-5-1, 0-2-1 Ivy) dropped a 1-0 decision to Ivy leader Penn last Saturday. The Lions, who have scored just one goal in their first three Ivy League games, are looking for their first win over Princeton since 2002.
Princeton will host Harvard next weekend, then travel to Cornell the following weekend and host Penn on the final day of the regular season Nov. 4. The Tigers defeated Cornell and Penn last season and earned a tie against Harvard.
