October 20, 2006 | Men's Soccer
High-scoring Harvard, tied for first place in the Ivy League standings, visits Lourie-Love Field Saturday afternoon to face a Princeton team that needs a win to sustain its chances in the league race.
The Crimson (10-4-0, 3-1 Ivy) also come into Princeton as a ranked team, at No. 25 in the NSCAA poll, making them the fourth Tiger opponent in the last five games to have been a ranked team at some point this season, joining St. John's, Brown and Seton Hall.
Princeton (6-5-3, 1-2-1 Ivy) has been off for a week since tying Columbia 2-2 in New York last Saturday. The Tigers twice tied the game in the final seven minutes after falling behind, including Kyle McHugh's goal with just 35 seconds left in regulation.
A pair of Princeton freshmen, Devin Muntz and Max Hare, earned Ivy League Honor Roll mentions last week as the Tigers earned a win and a tie. Muntz scored a goal in the final seven minutes of the second half against both Seton Hall and Columbia, while Hare had the overtime game winner for the Tigers in their win over Seton Hall.
Meanwhile, the red-hot Crimson have won five straight games, including a 5-2 win over Holy Cross this week and a 6-2 victory over then No. 14 Brown a week ago. Harvard has scored 36 goals through 14 games this season, almost twice as many as any other team in the league.
Freshman Andre Akpan, the league's Rookie of the Week last week, is the Ivy's leading scorer with 27 points (eight goals, 11 assists) this season. He had the first two Harvard goals in the win over Holy Cross on Tuesday.
Princeton and Harvard played to a 1-1 tie at Ohiri Field in Cambridge a year ago. The Tigers scored midway through the second half to tie the game after falling behind early in the half.
The Tigers are looking for their first win over Harvard since the 2002 season.
