October 21, 2006 | Women's Tennis
Princeton had a solid day at the ITA Northeast Regional Saturday at Dartmouth, as Ivana King and Melissa Saiontz advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles and King won her first-round singles match.
King and Saiontz, the No. 8-seeded team in the 64-team draw, first defeated Penn State's Sasha Abraham and Lauren Holzberg by an 8-6 score in the first round of the doubles. Later in the day, they dominated UConn's Breann Cheung and Kelly LoRusso by an 8-2 score. The tandem will play the No. 14 seeds from Yale in Sunday's Round of 16.
King, who reached the 128-player main singles draw with two qualifying wins Friday, continued her strong play by defeating Virginia Tech's J.J. Larsen 6-2 and 6-2 in the first round. She'll play Yale's Janet Kim in the second round Sunday.
Saiontz, the No. 7 seed in the singles draw, had a first-round bye Saturday and will play Richmond's Pam Duran in Sunday's second round.
