Three Princeton men's tennis players, senior Sratha Saengsuwarn and sophomores Alex Vuckovic and Peter Capkovic, reached the Round of 32 in the singles bracket at the ITA Northeast Regional held at the University of Pennsylvania this weekend.
Capkovic, a No. 8 seed, defeated Georgetown's Anthony Tan in the second round 6-4, 7-6 before falling to Yale's Mike Caldwell in the third round. Caldwell outlasted Capkovic 11-9 in a first-set tiebreak before taking the second set by a 6-3 score.
Vuckovic, a No. 17 seed, easily defeated Delaware's Nolan Greenberg in straight sets in the second round after a first-round bye. St. John's Louis Desmarteaux ended the sophomore's run, however, defeating Vuckovic 6-3 and 6-2 in the third round.
Saengsuwarn lost just three games in a second-round win over Buffalo's Mike Rockman, but fell to Penn State's Brendan Lynch by scores of 6-2 and 7-5 in the round of 32.
Princeton's doubles entry in the event was Vuckovic and senior Ted Mabrey, who defeated Harvard's Chris Clayton and Dan Nguyen in a tiebreak in the first round. Jason Hill and Nate Nelms of Navy ended their run in the second round, defeating the Princeton team 8-4.
Nelms also defeated Princeton's George Carpeni in the first round in singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
