Saiontz Falls to Harvard's Litvak in ITA Regional Semifinals
October 24, 2006 | Women's Tennis
Princeton freshman Melissa Saiontz saw her run at the ITA Northeast Regional come to an end Tuesday when she fell to Harvard freshman Lena Litvak, 6-3 and 6-2, at Dartmouth's Boss Tennis Center.
Saiontz was the No. 7 seed and Litvak the No. 6 seed in the 128-player singles draw. The Princeton freshmen won four matches in straight sets and a quarterfinal match in three sets to advance to Tuesday's semifinal round.
In her first semester at Princeton, Saiontz has already won the USTA Women's Collegiate Invitational and reached the semifinals at both this weekend's ITA regional and at Penn's Cissie Leary Invitational in September.
Litvak and Harvard teammate Beier Ko, who defeated top seed Kellie Schmitt of Marshall, reached the final and will advance to next weekend's ITA National Intercollegiate Championship.
