October 30, 2006 | Women's Golf
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- The Princeton women's golf team is in second place with one round to play at the Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C., seven shots behind host Rollins College.
Princeton's Marlowe Boukis is also in second on the individual leaderboard and has a seven-shot deficit to make up behind Rollins' Vanessa Vela, who rolled a 73 and 69 in the two rounds played Monday. She was the only golfer to break 70. Boukis shot a 76 and 73.
Just behind Boukis, tied for third place, is Sharla Cloutier and her rounds of 71 and 79. Susannah Aboff is tied for 11th after a 76 and 77, while rookie Michelle Grilli is tied for 15th with a 79 and 76, and Annika Welander, who won the first two tournaments Princeton entered, fired a pair of 80s Monday to stand tied for 35th on the par-72 course.
A total of 13 teams are in the event, and Princeton leads a pair of fellow Ivy schools. Harvard is in third place, eight shots back, and Yale, who won the Ivy title last year, is 15 shots behind the Tigers.
Two Orange and Black linksers are competing individually, with senior Alexis Etow tied for 13th after a 78 and 76, and fellow '07 Caitlin Sullivan firing an 81 and 80 to tie for 43rd.
Tuesday will conclude play not only for the tournament, but also for Princeton's fall schedule.
