Men's Soccer Continues Homestand, Hosts St. John's
October 04, 2006 | Men's Soccer
The Princeton men's soccer team beat a hot Bucknell team in a non-conference game last week. The Tigers get another chance at a team playing well Wednesday when St. John's visits Lourie-Love Field for a 7:30 p.m. match.
Princeton (5-3-2), winners of two straight, is certainly playing well itself. With consecutive 1-0 victories against both the Bison and Dartmouth, the Tigers have put an earlier three-game winless streak behind them as they head into the month of October.
St. John's (6-3-2) had been unbeaten in five straight before falling to Cincinnati in a Big East match Saturday. The Red Storm have been ranked nationally much of the year before falling out of the NSCAA poll this week.
The Tigers' 1-0 win against Dartmouth Saturday, in front of a large crowd celebrating 100 years of soccer at Princeton, was the team's first over the Big Green at Lourie-Love Field since 1994. Junior Kyle McHugh scored his second goal of the season in the game's 34th minute, and goalie Joe Walter earned his second shutout in as many games.
Princeton and St. John's are playing for the first time since the 1995 season.
The Tigers will host 21st-ranked Brown in a key Ivy League matchup Saturday night (7 p.m.). The Bears (1-0-1) and Penn (2-0) are the lone remaining unbeatens in Ivy League play.
