Saiontz Advances To Singles Final at USTA National Tennis Center Invitational

Princeton freshman Melissa Saiontz advanced to the championship match of the "A" singles flight at the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational with two straight-set wins on Sunday in New York.
Saiontz first defeated Ivy rival Yulia Rivelis of Penn in a tight match, 6-4 and 7-5, to advance to the semifinals. The Miami, Fla., native then dispensed Texas A&M's Else Potgeiter by scores of 6-3 and 6-1 to advance to Monday morning's championship match.
The Tigers also had two doubles teams reach the semifinals of the "B" flight at the tournament with quarterfinal wins Sunday. The senior tandem of Darcy Robertson and Joanna Roth defeated at team from N.C. State before falling in the semifinals to a Duke tandem. Princeton's other quarterfinalists, Laura Trimble and Kelly Stewart, defeated a team from Dartmouth in the quarters before losing to a team from Penn in the semis.
Princeton also won several consolation singles matches Sunday. Ivana King was a winner in the "A" flight, while Blakely Ashley won a "B" consolation match and Trimble and Stewart each won "C" matches. Kristen Scott also won a consolation match in the "D" flight.
