Men's Soccer Concludes Home Swing With Non-Conference Match Against Seton Hall
October 09, 2006 | Men's Soccer
The final non-conference game of the year for the Princeton men's soccer team is a third-straight game against a team that spent at least a part of the season in the national rankings. Seton Hall (7-5-1) may not be there anymore, but the Pirates were still No. 6 in the Northeast regional rankings last week.
The Tigers (5-5-2), playing their fourth straight home game, must rebound quickly from a 2-1 overtime loss to Brown in an Ivy League game Saturday night. Princeton will conclude the regular season with four straight Ivy games, beginning this Saturday at Columbia.
Junior Robbie Morgenroth scored his first career goal just 5:39 into the game Saturday against Brown. Morgenroth became the 10th Princeton player to score a goal this season and the 13th Tiger player (out of the 22 field players to have seen action this year) to record a point.
Seton Hall dropped a 3-1 decision at No. 22 Connecticut in a Big East game also played Saturday night, extending the Pirates' winless streak to three games. Eliseo Giusfredi, who leads the team with seven goals, scored on a first-half penalty kick after Justin McGrath was fouled in the box.
Last season, at Seton Hall, Princeton led the 20th-ranked Pirates at halftime, but Giusfredi scored twice in the second half to lead his team to a 3-1 win.
The Tigers are looking for the first win over Seton Hall since the 2001 Ivy championship season. The teams did play to 1-1 ties in both the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
Princeton and Seton Hall are meeting for the 21st consecutive season. In two of those seasons, 1988 and 1989, Seton Hall coach Manfred Schellscheidt coached against his son, Karl, who was a two-time team captain for the Tigers before graduating in 1990.
