Columbia Sweeps Princeton Fencing

NEW YORK - Princeton's fencing squads were dealt two defeats on Tuesday evening at Columbia in a make-up of an Ivy bout originally scheduled for Sun., Feb. 12 but postponed due to the snow. Columbia topped the men's team, 16-11, and the women's team 18-9. The defeats dropped the men's team's Ivy record to 2-1 and the women's team's record to 1-3.
Ben Solomon won all three of his matches in the epee in the only weapon the Tigers took, 5-4. John Winnerman won two of his three matches in the saber in a 6-3 Lion win in the weapon, and Douglas Hohensee also won a pair of matches in a 6-3 Columbia foil win.
Jacqueline Leahy won her three foil bouts to move her overall dual meet record to 27-0 this season. With Sara Jew-Lim picking up a couple wins in the weapon, Princeton prevailed in the foil, 5-4. But despite a pair of wins each from Erin McGarry and Kira Hohensee, Columbia took the epee 5-4 and swept the saber, 9-0.
Both teams will have rescheduled matches against Harvard and Yale on dates to be announced. The next scheduled team event is the IFA meet at Penn on the last weekend of the month.
