HANOVER, N.H. - Princeton senior Cack Ferrell won both the mile and 3,000-meter races on Sunday to earn Co-Athlete of the Meet honors at the 2006 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonals at Dartmouth's Leverone Field House.
Ferrell first won the mile, edging Yale's Lindsay Donaldson at the line to win the race in a meet record time of 4:43.66. Later in the day, she took the 3,000 meters, using an impressive finishing kick to drive past Harvard's Lindsey Scherf to win in a time of 9:17.60, more than 11 seconds better than the Harvard freshman.
Ferrell joined fellow Co-Athlete of the Meet Joslyn Woodard of Yale, who won three events, and Cornell's Sheeba Ibidunni, who won both the weight throw and the shot put, as the only athletes at Heps to win more than one event.
As a team, the Tigers finished fifth overall with 50 points. Cornell, which finished with 142 points, outdistanced second-place Yale by 57 points to win its fifth straight indoor women's Heps title.
The Tigers also had several other solid performances at the meet. Jordan Wagenseller was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:11.56, while Caroline Mullen and Suzanne Andrews each finished in the top five in the mile behind Ferrell.
Mia Swenson was fifth in the 5,000 meters, while Annie Santi finished a close fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Molly Jones was fourth for Princeton in the triple jump, leaping 39 feet, 7 1/4 inches.
