MALIBU, Calif. - Princeton played well in doubles competition and got a singles win at No. 6 from Jonathan Leslie, but second-ranked Pepperdine was too much to handle in a 6-1 win over the Tigers in a match played Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's No. 1 doubles team of Hans Plukas and Andrew Lieu performed admirably against the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Pepperdine's Andre Begemann and Scott Doerner, but the Wave team won by an 8-5 score. At No. 3 doubles, Darius Craton and Shannon Morales held an early lead before falling by the same 8-5 score.
The Tigers split sets at singles positions four through six, and Leslie won a 10-point proset at No. 6 over Oliver Hyams to get Princeton's win on the day. At No. 4, Hans Plukas took the first set in a tiebreak against Begemann, while Alex Vuckovic won the second set against Omar Altmann before falling in a 10-point proset.
At No. 2 singles, Craton played a tough first set against 20th-ranked Pedro Rico.
Princeton, now 4-5 on the spring, plays Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles Monday afternoon.
