PRINCETON, N.J. - For the second time this season, Princeton softball senior righthander Erin Snyder has claimed the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honor. Princeton pitchers have claimed all three honors awarded this season, and Snyder won six of the eight honors last year. Kristen Schaus was last week's winner as part of a Princeton sweep of the Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors as well.
In 24 innings over four games last week in California, Snyder struck out 30 batters and walked only two. For the week, she had a 2-2 record and 1.75 ERA.
Against St. Mary's last Tuesday, Snyder struck out nine with one walk on five hits and an earned run in a Princeton win. The following day, she took the loss at Sacramento state, striking out six with a walk in a 5-0 Princeton defeat. But Snyder bounced back during the Stanford Invitational, pitching a two-hit shutout of Illinois in which she struck out nine without a walk and holding No. 5 Stanford to one run on seven hits in a 1-0 defeat.
Though her hitting talents were not considered for the honor, Snyder swung the bat well, too. She was 7 for 25 (.280) with a clutch two-run home run as a first baseman against Illinois that turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead and a Princeton victory.
The Tigers, at 10-8, host Rutgers in a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m. It is the 2006 home opener at Class of 1895 Field.
