Tigers Fall to No. 50 Penn in Ivy Men's Tennis Opener, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA - In a match that featured four tiebreakers and three singles matches that went to three sets, the 50th-ranked Penn men's tennis team defeated Princeton, 6-1, in the Ivy opener for both teams.
The singles winner for the Tigers (4-9, 0-1 Ivy) was senior Andrew Lieu, who won a three-setter against Jonathan Boym at No. 3. Lieu won the first set 6-4 and then took the third by a 7-5 score after Boym won the second set.
Penn won three singles matches in straight sets, but all three featured tiebreaks. At No. 1, Sratha Saengsuwarn lost a tough first set in an 8-6 tiebreak before falling to Jason Pinsky. At No. 2, Darius Craton played a tough second set against Mikhail Bekker before dropping a tiebreak. And a at No. 5, freshman Alex Vuckovic lost by scores of 6-2 and 7-6 to Justin Fox.
The Tigers took the two other singles matches to three sets. Joseph Lok came back to defeat Hans Plukas at No. 4, while Jonathan Leslie won the second set in a tiebreak at No. 6 against Jimmy Fairbanks.
The match was Princeton's sixth this season in 13 matches against a nationally-ranked team.
Princeton hosts Rutgers Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.
