Solomon, Hurme in Position to Advance to NCAA Fencing Championships

DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Ben Solomon finished second in the epee and sophomore Tommi Hurme finished fourth in the same weapon on Saturday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Fencing Championships held at Duke University. The high placements are likely to grant both entries into the NCAA Championships in two weeks at Rice University in Houston, Texas. In all, eight Princeton men's fencers competed for national bids on Saturday.
Solomon would be making is fourth NCAA Championships appearance with a high finish of fifth as a freshman in 2003. Hurme would be competing his first NCAA national bout.
Also in the epee, senior Fenil Ghodadra finished 10th and freshman Max Peck placed 14th. In the foil, junior John-Paul Mitchell finished eighth and sophomore Douglas Hohensee finished ninth, just missing out on the top-seven automatic bids. Sophomore Jonathan Winnerman was Princeton's lone competitor in the saber, placing 14th.
The NCAA national competition takes place Mar. 18-19.
